Mario Beretić, Student

Hi Mario, what is it like to be a student at Base?

Hi! I am very satisfied, the work is very dynamic and interesting, the team is fun and I can manage my work hours by myself which is very important especially for me because I have college responsibilities as well.

What is the most valuable thing you have gained during your internship?

I would not point out anything in particular because the overall experience was excellent. If I have to point out something then I would say it is getting familiar with a lot of tools that I will need in the future. Also, this job helped me improve my time and obligations organization. Now I also understand what a working day within a company looks like, something I have not encountered so far.

How were you received by your older colleagues?

I have already said that the team is fun, and we became even closer when we went to the conference and Team building in Split. Unfortunately, I didn't get on the rafting trip, but the tour of the city and spending time around the city and at the beach were great. Regarding some more serious matters, everyone approached me like a mentor and was ready to take their time to explain everything to me clearly. I like that my colleagues are open to both business and private conversations.

How much did the faculty prepare you for what awaited you in practice? What were your biggest challenges?

I think that some courses in college are a bit useless, while on the other hand, some of the important subjects are oversimplified. I definitely learned the most from the lab exercises. The biggest challenge upon arriving at the internship was getting to know some programming languages, because it was completely unknown to me as an energy engineer.

What is the most important thing your mentor has taught you?

The most important thing my mentor taught me is not to worry and that everything will be done if you are well organized, as well not to fear new challenges.

When you are not in Base or college, how do you spend your free time?

I don't have too much free time on my hands, but when I find some, I usually play sports or hang out with friends playing cards or board games.

Three places you would like to visit?

I have a great desire to go to Brazil in Rio de Janeiro for the carnival. I would like to say that London is my second choice because the city seems phenomenal, they are supposedly quite generous as a nation, and I would like to visit a football match there. For the last place, I would choose some exotic islands where the sun burns every day and where the beaches are beautiful.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

I haven't thought about where I see myself in 5 years. I love doing things step by step, and right now my priority is to finish college and then continue to work on myself and expand my knowledge.

Finally, list three reasons why your fellow students should apply for an internship at Base.

I think that every student should strive to work on himself as much as possible and try new things because you never know when you will need something and what opportunities might arise later. In Base, in a relatively short time, I encountered a lot of new knowledge and tools, and I learned a lot, which is priceless. Also, in conversation with older and more experienced colleagues, you can hear and learn a lot about interesting ideas and technologies that are not so popular yet but may be necessary to know in the future. Of course, all senior colleagues are happy to introduce you to new things, and this all takes place through jokes and good mood, so I would conclude that there are three reasons why students should apply for an internship at Base:: developing yourself as a future engineer, getting acquainted with interesting technologies coming to us and having fun with a good team.
